Classroom Behavior:
In our class, students earn money throughout the week for positive behavior and homework completion. At the end of the week, students can use the money they’ve earned at Friday Store. Students can purchase a range of items at Friday Store, including stickers, reward coupons, puzzles, and more. Every day I will randomly choose a student to watch in the hallway. If this student sets a good example for our class while walking in the hallway (ie quiet voice, hands to side, eyes forward), then (s)he will receive a quarter from me at the end of the day. On Friday mornings, I will hand out the rest of their earned money. They will receive one quarter for staying on green or higher all week, and they will receive a quarter for turning in completed homework.
HOMEWORK POLICY
Spelling Homework:
Your child received a purple plastic Thursday Folder on the first week of school. Inside the “Return to School” pocket, you will find a list of words and spelling activities. Starting the second week of school, we will begin taking spelling tests. Students will be pre-assessed on the Words Their Way Primary Spelling Inventory and then placed in small groups based on word patterns they haven’t mastered yet. Please make sure your child practices writing his/her words every day.
In addition, students will be expected to know all of their “Popcorn Words.” The “Popcorn Words” list is comprised of some of the most commonly used words in the English language. By focusing on these words, your child will become a better speller, reader, and writer.
Math Homework:
All children will have a math assignment to complete for the week. The homework page(s) or project will directly correlate to what we are learning in math that week. If you are not sure how to complete the homework, please let me know and I will send home what we did at school to aid you in the homework assignment. I will check that homework is turned in every Friday at the beginning of the day. Please make sure all homework is returned to school by Friday inside of the child’s Thursday Folder. Students will receive a quarter for returned and completed homework assignments (see Class Info page for more information on our money reward system).
